Demand for air transportation continues to grow
Looking at the latest report from IATA, the International Air Transport Association we may see that the demand for air transport has returned to pre-Covid-19 levels, even surpassing the indicators of 2019. The global demand, measured in tons of freight (CTK), increased by 9% compared to February 2019 and + 1.5% compared to January 2021.
These figures allow us to say that the volumes have returned to the 2018 levels seen before the US-China trade war. Analyzing the figures more deeply, we can see that the demand for air cargo in all regions except Latin America has improved compared to pre-COVID levels. The growth in North America and Africa are the strongest indicators.
European carriers report a 4.7% increase in demand in February this year compared to the same month of 2019. New shutdowns in Europe have not had a significant impact on cargo demand, and operating conditions remain supportive for air cargo.
